THE CITY OF BERLIN
Since the fall of the wall in 1989 Berlin has transformed itself from being a divided city into one of Germany's most modern business and tourist destinations with many attractions, including the decorated remnants of the Berlin wall, the Brandenburg Gate which has become one of the city's most recognisable and photographed attractions, the German parliament building with its modern glass and steel dome that can be visited, as well as the trendy Potsdamer Platz and the hard-to-miss Television Tower (Fernsehturm) and the Schloss Charlottenburg, famed for its late-17th centure architecture. There are numerous high quality meseums, collections and art galleries, including the Museum Island with its UNESCO World Heritage Status. Twenty years on since the momentous fall of the wall, Berline is continuing to rebuild, with cranes littering the skyline. In contract to all of this, Berlin has many woods and lakes for relaxation. Berlin is the political, media, lifestyle and muticultural centre of Germany with something to offer every visitor.
